Alpha Chi National College Honor Society named Sidney Salyers the $3,000 H.Y. Benedict Fellowship fourth alternate at the Alpha Chi National Convention in April. Salyers graduated summa cum laude with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication sciences and disorders from Ouachita Baptist University in May.

Anthony Freeman and Tyranni Hubbard receive Ouachita's Annie Abrams Living Legacy Award

Ouachita Baptist University has named Anthony Freeman from Monroe, La., and Tyranni Hubbard from Little Rock, Ark, as the 2021 recipients of the second annual Annie Abrams Living Legacy Award for Black student leaders. They each will receive $2,500.

The late Dr. Susan Wink, professor emerita of English at Ouachita Baptist University, authored Ben Kimpel, a biography of the longtime chairman of the English Department at the University of Arkansas. The book was posthumously published earlier this year and is available at on Amazon.com.

Ouachita Baptist University’s Ben M. Elrod Center for Family and Community held its annual community service awards ceremony on Tuesday, April 13, recognizing the service efforts of university students, faculty and staff during the 2020-2021 academic year. Ian Cosh, vice president for community and international engagement, also was honored for his more than 33 years of service to Ouachita and the Elrod Center.

Since high school, Stephany Quintero has been passionate about serving as a member of the U.S. Army. Now a senior accounting and finance double major and member of ROTC at Ouachita Baptist University, Quintero has been named in the 2% of college students around the country accepted to the Army’s Educational Delay Program.

Ouachita Student Foundation receives CASE ASAP District 4 Pivot Award for Tunes REWIND

The Ouachita Student Foundation (OSF) has received the Council for Advancement and Support of Education’s Affiliated Student Advancement Program (CASE ASAP) District 4 Pivot Award for its work to create Tiger Tunes REWIND in order to continue to raise money for student scholarships in the 2020-2021 academic year. The Pivot Award is a new category introduced by CASE ASAP this year to acknowledge changes made to programming during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ouachita's School of Fine Arts announces adjusted spring events

Ouachita Baptist University’s School of Fine Arts has adjusted its Spring 2021 events, including concerts, theatre productions and art galleries, to allow students to continue their performance education as well as provide safe viewing for audiences following COVID-19 guidelines from the Arkansas Department of Health and Ouachita’s Health Monitoring and Action Team.
